Kind Bishop

 The story is about a kind Bishop who is always ready to help the poor. He lives with his sister Persome. Persome thinks he is too kind and people take advantage of him.

One night, a criminal (convict) who escaped from prison enters the Bishop’s house. He is hungry, tired, and dangerous. He threatens the Bishop with a knife and asks for food and rest. Instead of being scared, the Bishop treats him with great kindness. He gives him food, a bed, and treats him like a guest. The Bishop owns only one valuable thing—a pair of silver candlesticks. They were a gift from his dying mother and he loves them very much. During the night, the convict steals the candlesticks and runs away. Later, the police catch him and bring him back to the Bishop’s house with the candlesticks. They expect the Bishop to say that the man is a thief. But the Bishop does the opposite! He tells the police that he gave the candlesticks to the convict as a gift. The police release the convict. The convict is shocked. No one has ever shown him such love and forgiveness. The Bishop gently tells him to use the candlesticks to start a new, honest life. The criminal cries and promises to change.
